Deputy Sheriff Job Duties

Provide law enforcement services to the citizens of Cullman County, including the performance of the basic law enforcement tasks of protecting life and property, preserving the peace, preventing and suppressing crime, and the apprehension of violators of the law.

Detention Deputy Job Duties

Focus on maintaining the safety, order and discipline of inmates held in the Cullman County Detention Center. Enforce security rules and regulations, participate in booking, fingerprinting, photographing and processing of new inmates; escort inmates when moving inmates inside or outside the detention center; maintaining close checks on all inmates physical conditions, reporting illness or injury to supervisors; operate electronic monitoring equipment, maintaining records, the understanding and operation of NCIC and two-way communications. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions; be able to read and comprehend written material; possess logical reasoning, memory and observation skills. Be available to work day, evening, or night shifts including holidays and weekends as needed to staff the detention center. Overtime hours may be required. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Dispatcher Job Duties

Dispatchers of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office must be able to perform a variety of tasks to ensure the 24 hour, 7 day a week operation of the communications center. All work must conform to established laws, policies, and procedures of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, and to professional standards of law enforcement administration and criminal justice.

 

Physical Agility / Physical Ability Test Information

As an applicant with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, you are required to pass Phase One of this test for Detention Deputy or Reserve Deputy Positions and Phase One & Phase Two of this test for Deputy Sheriff Positions, both components will be administered on the same day. The test is formatted to a pass/fail structure. An applicant’s failure to successfully complete any part of phases one or two will result in failure of the entire test.
