School Resource Officers

The Cullman County Sheriff's Office has a full-time School Resource Deputy in all the schools throughout the county. The School Resource Deputy program is a nationally accepted program involving the placement of a law enforcement officer within the schools. In addition to providing law enforcement presence at the schools, the School Resource Deputies are role models for the students. The Cullman County Sheriff's Office currently has 11 deputies assigned to the School Resource Deputy Program.

What is a School Resource Deputy?

First and foremost, a School Resource Deputy is a law enforcement officer. Each deputy provides a uniformed presence to their school campus. They are prepared and trained to protect the students and faculty from intruders, conduct criminal investigations and patrol their beat (the school). They advise the school administration in safety and security matters for each school as well as lending their expertise in law related issues. The deputies also provide security for after-school events, such as football, basketball, etc., for their assigned schools.

Second, a School Resource Deputy educates. Each deputy conducts classroom presentations on a variety of subjects including: alcohol and drugs prevention, crime and violence prevention, safety, and anti-bullying.
